Our excursion starts from Pskov – the city located at the confluence of two rivers - the Pskova and Velikaya. Pskov is a very ancient Russian city and attracts numerous tourists. You can examine the remains of ancient fortress walls, modest and magnificent churches, ancient merchant houses.
You will visit the ancient Kremlin with beautiful Trinity Cathedral. There you can see 7 tier iconostasis. During the tour you will get acquainted with the peculiar features of the Pskovian religious and secular architecture, as well as the architecture of fortifications. The most brilliant samples of the Pskov architectural school are the Churches of St. Nicholas on Usokha & St. Basil on the Hill, the Pogankin House & the Intercession complex.
In Izborsk city we will visit an anciant Fortress (9 century) & famous Slavensky springs. The perfectly preserved Izborsk fortress had to withstand 8 long sieges from the 14th to the 16th century and was never captured by enemy. Sightseeing in Izborsk will not be complete if you do not have a look at its ancient buildings. The Church of St. Sergius (16th century) is the most interesting among them. You will also be able to drink powerful water from the Holly Slovenian Springs.
- Then we will go to Pechory - town, located on the very Estonian border in 20 km from Izborsk. Its main attraction is Monastery founded in 1473. The name of the monastery was derived from the Old Russian word "pechera" meaning "cave", as the monastery originated from the caves. The caves are located in a steep sandy slope of the Kamenets Stream, in a hill that was considered as a holy site since pagan times. Amazing climatic conditions (the constant temperature in the caves is +5°C all the year round) made the caves a convenient refuge for the people who wished to live in solitude away from the distractions of the world. The ancient caves are an enormous burial vault where nearly 10 000 people are buried - monks, worries, statesmen, peasants and townspeople. Our guide will tell you interesting stories about the life of saint monks.
We invite you to visit a picturesque place - Pushkinskiye Gory located near the historical villages of Mikhailovskoye, Trigorskoye and Petrovskoye, associated with the work of the famous Russian poet Alexander Pushkin. Here surrounded by beautiful nature, the ancient land of Pskov were created: a tragedy "Boris Godunov", the novel "Eugene Onegin", the poem "Count Nulin" and "the Gypsies" , written poem "I remember a wonderful moment" and many others! Pushkinskie Gory (also can be called Pushgory or Pushkin Hills) is a large open-air museum around the former Alexander Pushkin's family mansion. Its area includes several villages, each having a mansion and a park, surrounding forests, and riverside landscape. There is also a settlement with the same title nearby. Silent alleys of picturesque parks, astonishing views at traditional Russian scenery, and the total atmosphere of early 19th century - everything makes this place a perfect destination for those who want to explore the incredible beauty of hidden Russia.
During our tour you will get acquainted with creativity of the poet and will visit the house Museum of Pushkin. The villages of Petrovskoe and Mikhailovskoe were the familiar property of Alexander Pushkin's ancestry since 18th century. In 1817 Pushkin visited the place for the first time and was completely charmed by it. Afterwards he spent here 2 years being in exile after his disfavour at the capital. Here he wrote a significant part of his poetry, which became Russian and international legacy, including the part of Eugeny Onegin poem. The museum was founded in 1922 by Bolsheviks, who decided to preserve Pushkin's cultural heritage from peasant disorders occured after 1917 revolution.
